I used my girl kitty as inspiration. She’s such a love and when she’s curled up somewhere and I approach her, she always looks up at me with a affectionate and happy expression.
The whiskers are these little buds on a wire that usually get used as the stamen in fake flowers. I saw them in the wedding department of my local hobby store and I just knew I’d find some use for them. I was right!
The wings were tricky. Making the wire frame was no problem, just a bunch of bending and twisting. The hard part was getting the nylon stretched over the frame. By the end I was covered with gold dust! Again, the nylons were a lucky find at a costume store. I seem to be a very clairvoyant shopper! *lol*
I am eager to do more sculptures. Maybe Raphael and Raquel will be expecting a bundle of joy soon! Or, that could be several bundles, as in a litter of them. Eeeee!"

I wish I could have made the wings bigger, but because of the odd angle of Raquel’s back and the hugeness of her ears I was limited. Lessons learned...
You’ll notice that the Dumbo-esque ears have cracks on the tips. My cats decided that the ears needed some "trimming" and one of them bit the tips off! With all the chewed bits, repair work was no easy task, let me tall ya. "

I love sculpting and I am looking forward to more, however I am pondering minimal use of paint and more use of other embellishments like fake fur, feathers, fabrics, etc.
My current plan is to do a sculpture of my M’hali character. Now that’s going to be quite the challenge!
I hope you plan to post your sculpture at your gallery. *nudge nudge*"

Wickham replies: "I’ve been having mad urges to sculpt again. The next step would be a trip to the craft store to find the right materials for her soft bits, like fur and whiskers. I’ve got plenty of sculpy and armature wire...
