SciFi and Fantasy Art Blast From The Past: Games! by Barbara J. Wickham

Back in high school myself and a friend used to have many great adventures. We felt that our journeys should be recorded so I started drawing the best parts of our experiences. Of course, our stories were all made up in our own minds and the characters were pure imagination, but we didn’t care too much about that. We had fun and that was what counted.

Here Kira distracts Brom, a local woodsman by challenging him to a friendly game of Towers. Meanwhile, Mara takes advantage of the situation...

The character Brom became a regular. He’s one of those tough guys who is really just a big teddy bear. Still, we were very careful not to make him angry since he tended to keep his rather large axe close at hand. Brom got taken over by another friend and the adventures got even more interesting from there. When we finally gave up there were at least 10 regulars participating.

*Very simple, very quick pencil sketch done between classes at school, between 1984 & 85. An oldie, but goodie!

The wrapper says, "Watch the sun come up." -- sage advice coming from a piece of chocolate... mmm hmm hmm ^_^ -- sneaky, sneaky, Kira and Mara. How did this one turn out? If Brom became a regular I'm sure that sooner or later he must've discovered that one of these girls had his purse, and that Axe sounds none too friendly. > This roll-playing game sounds like it was a riot! And you got ten people involved? Have you recorded the stories you came up with together? -- it makes for a fun, nostalgic sort of present, a big compilation of memories of make-believe like that. And for another Dove Chocolate thought, "The best things in life are chocolate." Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Mmmm. Chocolate. I chocolate. Sage advice indeed. I watch the sunrise every morn over my first cup of coffee and there happens to be chocolate in my coffee. What a coinky-dink! Sunrises & chocolate...mmm... Sorry. Am I rambling? Ahem...sorry... The guy who played Brom really got a kick outta this pic when we were going over Brom's history with him. It became an inside joke in later adventures as one of us would inevitably wonder if Brom had anything useful in his 'purse' to get us out of sticky situations. Kira & Mara never passed up an opportunity to mention many rather embarrassing items they had discovered going thru the sack. snort I wish I had kept more of these pics but a lot of them got discarded over the years or just went missing. I never intended to keep them at the time, not understanding how much they would be worth in memories later on. sigh If I come across more I'll be sure to post them. And yes...the best things in life are chocolate."

Friendly game of Towers, indeed... >=D Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thanks! I also love Kira's face. The real funny thing is that today I would have to go thru tons of scrap paper tying to get that expression right. Perhaps there may be a lesson in there for me to think about...hmmm..."
25 Dec 2007	Glo 'the Bug' Bowden	Loading... Hmm...sounds like Brom and Chainlink could be friends. Barbara J. Wickham replies: "lol Yes, indeed they could! They’re both big and gruff, yet cuddly-wuddly Papa Bear types. Hmmm… Let us imagine for a moment that the characters from TC & LN found a portal to another dimension which happened to be to the world where Kira and Mara live and that each character has a counterpart in this strange new world. Kira and Hut would get along famously since Kira is quite an inventive woodswoman and can come up with gadgets in a very Macgyver-esque way, yet she also has a certain charming tomboy innocence…that is when she isn’t cursing and drinking like a pirate! Arrrrgh! Rubix and Mara seem quite similar as well; brains and beauty in one package! Oh! Also, one girl had a clueless blond elven character named Cloe that would be a good match to Slip! She didn’t play for long but we had lots of fun while it lasted. Dark Horse might be a bit challenging to find a match for since only a couple of guys joined in the game. However, there were a few non-player characters that would be good candidates. Including one that was a romantic interest for Kira. giggle I’ll have to scrounge some more and see if I have any pics of these other characters… Oh! Not to forget! Kitsch and Kira's cardinal friend would get along famously! lol Okay, now I’m just being silly. Anyhoo, it was fun romping down memory lane again. Thanks for indulging my fancies! Tee hee!"

Wickham replies: "ROFLOL Okay, I just had this image of Orcs running around in pink leotards and tutus, doing pirouettes on the battle field, and Ballerina Man leading the charge! LOL! This may inspire a picture... gasp"
