SciFi and Fantasy Art: One Misty, Magical Morning...

This is my submission for the Bifrost project, Personal Familiar. When I found out what the subject of the project was going to be it took me all of 5 seconds to decide what my familiar would be-or, I should say, who my two familiars would be.

If you have seen the rest of my gallery, you may recognize these two fearless felines. Yep. It's Smeagol and Padme! My two mysterious kitty companions who are actually secret fighters of evil and bad magic.

Here the dynamic duo are experimenting with shape-shifting in an attempt to see what it's like to be a griffin. Smeagol decided to take his inspiration from a cooper's hawk, while Padme being in a more adventurous mood, decided to go with a snow owl. As you can clearly see, both kits are very much enjoying the novelty of flight. Usually, they just teleport when they want to go elsewhere, but the thought of wing and talon was just too tempting to pass up. Small, furry evildoers, beware! Bwahahaha!

*Photo manipulation and Photoshop painting tools. Both cats are photographs, as are Padme's wings. All other elements are painted on the computer. All photos used in this pic were taken by me.

Thank you for the Mod's!!!! Big *purrrrs* from my kitties, too!

I’ve drawn something like this before and I didn’t get a Mod.

Congrats, but that isn’t very fair.

:-) Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you very much for your congrats, Candy. I really appreciate it. "

Thank you for the sweet comment, Jaclyn!"

12 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you!

It was inevitable that my kitties would end up as griffins. They are victims to my twisted artistic whims! Bwahahaha!

Yay, Barb! Another well-deserved little gold star! 1 *applaudes* It’s good to see these fantastic felines again. They look like they are having the time of their lives! -- The poses, by the way, are too adorable! Smeagol looks like he knows all to well what a handsome little griffon he is. And I love how Padme is twisting in midair. It makes me think of innocent little Mew from Pokemon *embraces own nerdiness.* 6 She also sort of reminds me of a Furby, only much cuter.

It’s such a fluid picture. It’s hard to tell where the photos end and the photoshopping begins! Excellent work Barb!

:-) Barbara J. Wickham replies: "*dance of happiness for getting the 10th comment* Tee hee!

I’m so happy that you like the poses. I poured over so many photos of my kitties, trying to find the perfect pose that would translate into the movement of flight.

With Padme I found the perfect photo right away where she was sprawled out on the floor with a joyful, endearing look on her face. The clincher was the way she had her front paws curled into her chest. Sooooo sweet!

With Smeagol I had similar photos, but I wanted a different pose, something that would look like he was coming out of a daring, high-speed dive. Just like with Padme, I wanted something that would convey his personality. I ended up using a photo where he was hanging over the arm of a couch, with his front legs stretched out full-length in front. Unfortunately, his back legs are not visible in the photo, so I had to copy and paste his front legs and attach them where I thought the rear legs should be. All in all, it turned out okay-at least it does look like he’s putting on the breaks! *Screeech*

For the rest of the pic I just concentrated on creating the most enchanting environment I could for their flight of fancy. I ignored any technical things that went against my vision, like how the moon would not be in the sky right above the rising sun. In my world, it does. He he he.

Thank you for your loverly comments! I always treasure your opinion.

btw-The new, more reasonably-sized versions have been posted. *blushes*"

Catowls...well no one can claim you for the lack of imagination

12 Barbara J. Wickham replies: "*lol* Thank you, Niina!

The real world can be very inspiring to the imagination. I like to take what is already there and mix up the interesting bits."

Whimsically surreal, complete with rainbow sky 1. Congrats on the MC and the spiffy Bifrost entry!

:-) Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you, Marina! I had the need for a big dose of whimsy and pretty colors, so when the Familiar project came about I thought it the perfect excuse to have fun with my kitties. To be honest, I was a bit surprised this got a Mod’s, but I am by no means complaining! *lol*"

THis is such an amazing work! I can’t imagine the hours involved. These two must be the absolute cutest and coolest familiars to have! (Please, don’t tell mine I said that).

:-) Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you, Jennifer! I did put a lot of time into this one. I originally wanted to use more photos, like for the wings and beaks, but I could only find the right photo for Padme’s (black and white kitty) wings in my files. I ended up having to paint all the other bits and pieces and that’s what took the greatest amount of time.

Thank you again for your sweet comments! I’m sure your familiars are super cute too! *purrrr*"

Luv the softness. It’s so pretty! They look so realistic! ...4 griffins, I mean. HeeHee... Padme almost looks like a furby! Adorable. Luv this pic.

:-) Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you, Sarah! I’m so happy you like it. It was quite fun to do.

I have a Furby on my shelf and Padme does indeed look like it! *lol* How cute."
