Hello & Welcome! Thank you for stopping by.
I'm a child at heart, so my age is unimportant. I live in California, USA and enjoy everything about it, except the sky-rocketing cost of living and the lack of discernable seasons. I seem to have developed a broad range of interests that would be too long to list here. The same goes with my preferences in books, music, visual arts, etc. In short, I likes a lotta stuff!
My drawings, sketches, ideas, etc. are the stories I would write if I had any kind of literary talent. However, I make no boasts about my art skills. I simply enjoy creating pictures that have some kind of tale to tell. I enjoy using pencils, pastels, oils & acrylics, ceramics and Photoshop, although I am willing to try anything once. I can get inspired by Anything and Everything. I just let the story happen. Sometimes the story develops as the pic does. Other times there is a whole universe of ideas contained in the first few strokes of the pencil. That’s what is so great about it! I never know where the process is going to take me until I get there.
All of the pieces that are in this gallery are among my favorites, some old, some new, some still in the concept stage, some finished and others somewhere in between. My plan is to take these pictures and develop them further. I feel that all of my pics are still in progress and never really complete. Also, I can’t say I dislike any of the work I’ve done over the years. I guess I don’t like to take myself too seriously. Regardless, I still know in my heart that I am an artist and so I also take great pleasure in viewing other artist’s creations, regardless of skill, talent, etc. If it’s obvious an artist enjoys what he or she is doing, that’s a good enough reason for me.
Lastly (whew!), I am so glad to finally be here at Elfwood. I can’t wait to share in the community, knowledge and creative spirit that is so evident in this great place! So, please leave a comment and I will gladly return the favor. Or, if you want more info on anything seen here, drop me an e-mail, just please put “Elfwood” somewhere in the subject line or I won’t open it! Also, please be patient, I’ve adopted the Ent philosophy and never do anything too hasty.
Happy Thoughts and Ticklish Toes!
Update: Wyvern's Library shelf now available for your literary amusement! Woo hoo!
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the number of requests I've received I have to inform you, my lovely visitors, that I can not take any requests or commissions at this time. If/when this changes I will let you know. Sorry, but there are just not enough hours in the day. *sniffle* If comments were cash I could live happily on the abundance of them and quit my job! Alas, this is not the case. Thank you, O gracious ones for your understanding.
Hark! A special message from the artist: Please remember to express your appreciation to Thomas and all the other amazing folks who keep Elfwood running. Donate! Thank you!

Wickham replies: "Thank you so much for letting me know. I have you tagged as a fav on both my accounts and I still didn’t get an email! GRRRR!
I have read Umbrella Man and I’ll check out the other stories soon! "
| 3 Aug 2009 | Ashy Casey | Loading...I love your smileys!! Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thank you, Ashy! I once made a bunch of emoticon cat faces that I used on forums and my smiley is a smaller version of those, with the added wink.
Your smiley is quite lovely! It’s so colorful and looks like sparkling crystal."
| 3 Aug 2009 | Zachary Tank_Comander Marshal | Loading...I like your gallery, but it makes me wonder if fanticy artists can draw sci/fi... and viceversa Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Of course I can draw scifi! I just don’t always want to. *lol*
Actually, I love scifi and I have a piece in the works right now. It’s very retro, reminiscent of the cool styles of 50’s scifi.
Check out John Farley’s gallery at http://www.elfwood.com/~johntex. Not only does he have some great scifi art, but he also has a lot of comments from like-minded artists. "
| 7 Aug 2009 | John R Farley Jr | Loading...Hi Barbara, thanks for the plug. Since you like cat or anything feline-related, you will enjoy this video. A cat playing (sort of) the piano. Not great, but oddly good enough to be fun to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ860P4iTaM&feature=channel Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Anytime, John! Always glad to send a new fan your way.
I love that video. I’ve seen her before and never get tired of watching her obvious enjoyment of music. It is so apparent that she has not been trained to do that. She actually likes do tickle those ivories!
" | |
| 17 Aug 2009 | Paul Cerar | Loading...An amazing coincidence: A fellow Elfwood artist, Rachel Eve Lachance, drew a portrait of me, in downtown Toronto, without me even knowing it. Look at "After The Battle". I am the handsome one on the right. Mind you, she was too generous - I am much fatter. Barbara J. Wickham replies: "You have a nice smile. " | |
| 20 Aug 2009 | Mitchell Frewen | Loading...I’m becoming a fan of your work, I like the ideas you come up with especially with the wraith and the two lovers, the werewolf and luther’s sister (yes I am a hopeless romantic also AND PROUD!) Lol. Keep up the good work. Barbara J. Wickham replies: "That’s so nice to hear! Thanks!
I’m in a bit of a dry spell, so I may not post anything new for a while, but I hope you continue to enjoy what’s currently in my gallery.
I promise to get busy on my art again soon! "
| 15 Sep 2009 | Samantha E Fortie | Loading...Got some new stuff up, one new story in my regular stuff called Clancy’s Backpack, and a whole bunch of stuff in my other writings folder. Check it out when you get the chance Barbara J. Wickham replies: "Thanks, Samantha! I’ll stop in soon. " | |
| 26 Oct 2009 | Bicskei Anna Draconida | Loading...Heya! Thanks a lot for your wonderful comments! I see that some "familiar faces" are still present in your gallery. Sadly I didn’t have the free time to continue the Longest Journey tour series, but who knows... maybe someday... Never say never! Barbara J. Wickham replies: "You’re most welcome! It’s always a pleasure to peruse your artwork.
I’ve been extra busy this past year as well and have sadly neglected my art. I hope to soon add some new faces to the familiar ones. "
